Trips to Niue

Get away from it all in idyllic Niue

A large coral atoll rising from the sea, it is a separate island in the middle of the triangle formed by Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands. It lies 2,400 kilometres north-east of New Zealand, east of the International Date Line.

The whole country of Niue is like one big resort. At 269 square kilometres, it is one of the smallest countries in the world, but also one of the largest coral atolls in the world.

Niue is a Pacific island paradise where nature has remained intact and things are still done the old-fashioned way. That’s why a trip to Niue is perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing holiday and want to escape your busy everyday life.

Niue is not the easiest place to travel to, which is why we recommend this destination as part of your trip to New Zealand, with convenient flights from Auckland, New Zealand. Wouldn’t it be nice to end your New Zealand tour by spending a few days in paradise before returning home?

Enjoy the safe waters of Niue

Niue is a self-governing federal state of New Zealand, which means that Niue controls its own domestic policy, but New Zealand is responsible for foreign policy and defence. The official head of Niue is the British monarch.

Niue has stunning coral reefs, and the island is known for its excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities. Below the surface you can explore colourful marine life, caves and coral formations, swim with dolphins, see whales up close or snorkel in warm, safe waters. On your trip to Niue, you can also visit the world’s largest small whale sanctuary, catch your first deep-sea fish or walk the many scenic trails along the cliffsides.

Due to the small size of Niue Island, it does not offer as many activities as, for example, Fiji or other larger Pacific islands. The average water temperature is 23 degrees Celsius, and with its typical tropical climate and friendly and caring people, the island has a warm atmosphere all year round. It is easy to explore Niue by bike, with quiet roads and several bike rental shops.
